Meet our Friend Maggie:
Maggie

We adopted Maggie from China on Dec. 28, 2009.  It was so amazing to finally hold our daughter that we had waited for and loved.  We knew she had Right unilateral microtia/atresia and were pretty sure she had normal hearing in her left ear.  After having a routine hearing exam and an ABR, we found out that Maggie has severe hearing loss in her "normal" left ear and a normal functioning cochlea in her atretic right ear.  We also found out she would  be able to hear with the help of a bone conduction hearing aid. This was a miracle for Maggie and she has done so well so far with her hearing aid.  We are thankful  that we found out about Me and My Bow.  Now, she looks so cute with her headband and bow.  Maggie really loves her hearing aid and she rarely pulls her headband off.  We have had so many compliments on her band and most people don't even realize she has a hearing aid on. Meet Jeyden:

Jeyden received her bone conduction hearing aid at 2 months. She has bilateral ear canal atresia ( no microtia). At 5 months, she was diagnosed with 22q11deletion syndrome. It was a roller coaster ride for us. I spent countless hours researching this syndrome, also know velocardiofacial syndrome. I was her #1 advocate at her doctor visits, pushing for tests and answers. Often times I found myself knowing more than some of her pediatricians. We started speech therapy and I started teaching Jeyden sign language at 6 months. This was the best gift I could have given my daughter.  I stopped counting signs at 140 signs. She was "talking in sentences" by 15 months. She put 2-3 signs together to tell me what she needed. It was awesone! She spoke her 1st words at 22 months. As she developed more expressive language, she started dropping her signs. Jeyden is now in preschool and having fun with her friends and learning to use her voice with her peers!!
